3. American politics

3.1. The legislative branch

3.1.1. Made up of the two houses of Congress—the Senate (100 members) and the House of Representatives (435 members). The most important duty of the legislative branch is to make laws. Laws are written, discussed and voted on in Congress. But it is also responsible for approving federal judges and justice, passing the national budget and declaring war. Each state have 2 senators.

3.2. The judicial branch

3.2.1. The U.S. government is the system of federal courts and judges that interprets laws made by the legislative branch and enforced by the executive branch. At the top of the judicial branch are the nine justices of the Supreme Court, the highest court in the United States.

3.3. The executive branch

3.3.1. The executive branch is described in Article 2 of the constitution. The leaders of this branch of government is the president and vice president. The President is the head of the executive branch, which makes laws official. The President is elected by the entire country and serves a four-year term. The President approves and carries out laws passed by the legislative branch. He appoints or removes cabinet members and officials.

Salad bowl er hvor at man godt kan have nogle forskellige kulturer sammen og man ikke behøver at ændre sig så meget for at blive en del af kulturen. In 1790 were 20% of the population from Africa. There was about 700.000 slaves and 60.000 "Free negroes" The US is a combined nation of a lot of different people in it. USA was made up from a lot of different nation and therefore there is a lot of diversity in USA. The white immigrant had it easier with the immigration than the people from African descent had. In the Northern America they didn't want to have slaves anymore because they were afraid that they could take their economic freedom.
